There's a new heir to Scotland's Gin throne...And she's set to rule the world.

Gin Queen - The Tasting

What better way to spend the evening of International Gin & Tonic Day than exploring the contents of Flavourly's October Gin box. Featuring three interesting Gins, including 'Gin Queen', a new Gin from Scotland and a Flavourly first time exclusive. Having never even heard of Gin Queen, we were intrigued to see if its flavours lived up to the beautiful artistry of renowned New York tattoo artist Rose Hardy featured on the label.

Botanicals

Juniper, coriander seeds, lemon peel, orange peel, calmus root and nutmeg root.

On The Nose

On the nose, Gin Queen presents a refreshing surprise. The label might suggest that this is something of a floral Gin, but drinkers are first met with a refreshing blast of menthol which quickly gives way to the clean scent of fresh pine needles backed up with hints of citrus. Certainly no floral bouquet for this Queen, but an extremely pleasant introduction to her exquisite beauty nonetheless.

Tasting Notes

Tasted neat, whilst juniper and coriander come to the fore, this is an extremely well balanced Gin, with lemon peel and orange peel being allowed to shine through without adding any overall sharpness. However, it is the calamus root which makes this Gin so pleasant to taste as it really smooths out the overall mouthfeel and prevents any one ingredient from dominating. At Worldwide Gin, we are fans of the humble G&T, but this is one Gin that we'd be more than happy to sip neat, it really is that smooth, and that smooth, silky, finish is further enhanced by the inclusion of nutmeg root which adds a subtle hint of spice whilst helping to prolong the finish. This is a smooth Gin with a lingering flavour, allowing the drinker to truly savour the drink.

Perfect Serve

For the perfect serve, we'd recommend mixing in a G&T with a premium tonic water garnished with an orange slice or lime wedge to compliment the citrus notes. We tried mixing with both Fever-Tree Premium Indian Tonic Water and Lamb & Watt Original Tonic Water, each with a lime wedge for garnish, and both were simply sublime (The latter tonic being slightly sweeter adding a hint of watermelon to the taste).

Conclusion

Make no mistake, Gin Queen is a small batch Gin which is set to make a huge impact on the Gin scene. If you can find it, try it.
